Very nice place for a picnic they only open couple times a month from spring to autumn, historic site about Japanese people in America, if you read the book about Okei-san the girl from wakamatsu you will had a better idea about the place and the history. Bring water and a hat to walk around the lake.

Really over rated. Why is everyone so excited about this place? It’s a farm. And not a particularly scenic one either.

My husband and I just got married at Wakamatsu two weeks ago. We had a fabulous wedding! The grounds are beautiful and well maintained as this is a conserved piece of land owned by the American River Conservancy. There is much history there and the ARC does a wonderful job preserving it. Melissa Lobach (Development Director) was a great resource and patiently worked with us to answer any questions we had while planning our wedding there! The ARC was very accommodating while choosing our location on the property for the ceremony and reception. We decided to have our ceremony in their Japanese tea garden behind the historical Graner house. The area was mostly shaded by trees and lush greenery surrounding. We comfortably seated nearly 200 people on the grassy area for the ceremony. We were free to use the house for preparing food in the full chef’s kitchen and utilizing other rooms for getting ready for our wedding. We decided to have our reception in their newest structure on site called The Education Center. This structure is an open air building with no electricity. The ARC hung solar lights in the structure which lit the area well for the evening, however, our reception went until 10pm and we could have utilized extra lighting for the end of the night. I recommend bringing a generator with area lighting for later events (although we didn’t need anything until about 8:30). We also rented bathroom trailers and parked them near The Education Center for convenience. The property also has a small lake, open fields, a native plant garden, a Japanese Tea House, and giant blue oaks among other beautiful areas on site- all of which made a gorgeous backdrop for our celebration and photos!
Overall, we were very happy with our experience at Wakamatsu and working with the ARC. The rental of the property was very affordable and we felt great that the money would go towards supporting an organization we believe in. So grateful for the beautiful memories created at Wakamatsu!

This is a very nice place to learn about history. The guides here are very kind, giving us water and umbrellas to help cool down. There is a beautiful trail nearby what I believe is a lake. However, if you don't like walking around alot, then I don't recommend you to come.
