PERFECT DATE NIGHT

Aug 22nd 2024
Date Night: Summer French Bistro
$99 per seat

We learned:
-Seared Chicken with Ratatouille
-Tomato and Goat Cheese Tart
-Grilled Asparagus with Caper Vinaigrette
-Raspberry-Lemon SoufflĂŠ

The chef was very funny and he seemed to be very well experienced with teaching. Very entertaining class.

Very intense class, chopping and cooking fast. I learned so much my first time there. The class lasted for 2 hours and we all sat down to eat the delicious food we prepared afterwards. I wish we had more time to learn the entire process of the Raspberry-Lemon SoufflĂŠ, some things are prepped for time sake so just be aware. The Tomato and Goat Cheese Tart is DELIGHTFUL!

You work with other students in groups of 4, sharing workstations and equipment.

Hands-on classes are limited to 12-16 students, depending on location.

You will be standing, cooking and working for most of the class.

Students receive a coupon good for 10% off in-store purchases the day of class

Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and have long hair tied back.

*Room temperature is on the cold side so bring a jacket.

? I believe you can bring your own wine bottle/alcohol to drink if it’s a private event only ?

Street parking was easy.

Overall a very fun and tasty experience!

I attended two classes ( From scratch pasta and savoring Spain) on same day with Chef Michael. It was a gift from my husband. Chef Michael gave clear instructions.
It was an amazing experience. From the scratch pasta class had only 3 attendees for the day. So it was just one station but everyone got good hands- on experience. You will be sharing the station with 2 or 3 other people depending on how many are there. Savoring Spain had more attendees so I had to join a couple. Little con there was if you like it spicier you can add more if others don’t like it.
You will get a printed recipes as well as email recipes( I have yet to get the email recipes)
You get 10% off on items you purchase on store on same day and I was told that if I take a class again it will be $10 off as well.
Class room is not heated. So have to wear warm cloths if it is winter.

While the chef teaching the class was engaging and fun and the meal was great, I wish I would have known my husband and I would have to share our cooking station with another couple. It’s a different experience when you market this as a perfect date night but then it becomes a very social interaction because you are sharing your ingredients and all the cooking with two other people. What was a bummer is that I would have considered not spending $200 on a cooking class if I knew I wouldn’t actually get to do all the cooking with just myself and my husband.

My husband and I attended the date night cooking class ( a Christmas gift from my husband). It was a sold-out class, and we were very excited to try it! We showed up a little early and walked around the store. The class before us ran a little over, so our class started a little late.
We get to our station and think we will cook our meal. We were wrong; it's a group effort, so we're not making sure that people genuinely wash their hands after they are on their phones or touching their hair and then handling our food, etc. We were packed in with too many couples and not enough room to move, making it difficult to cook and get the chef’s attention. You can’t tailor your food at all. I don’t like salt in my food, and I don’t want a lot of butter, etc.
The steaks were very rare, and I couldn’t eat my food. There weren’t enough seats for everyone to sit and eat, so some people had to stand and eat. When you pay $200 for a meal, they should have places to sit and should be tailored to what you don’t like in your food.

I received a gift card for Sur La Table and was excited to use it but after reading all the bad reviews, I am hesitant to book a class. I don't really want to share a cooking space with random strangers. That's not my idea of a fun date night.

Our class was fine and the food turned out good. Our chef was friendly and had good stories but didn’t instruct us very well. Many times, we had to ask for basic instruction on next steps or clarification. There was no instruction or advice on plating and that made a difference with so much sauce.

The shared station (up to 4) is just a line in the overall description. I think it should be more prominent so people know what they’re buying. Also, I wish SLT would look at this practice. I don’t mind sharing with 1 other but I think sharing a station with 2 or 3 other people, particularly on a fairly easy meal (like our meal was) doesn’t provide the “truly immersive culinary experience” and the chance to “master techniques” that the website promised. Overall, I don’t think it was worth the $90.

This review is for the in person Creative Croissants Class with Chef Anne as well as the team that assisted during class—George and Susan. Susan was very welcoming at check-in and with directing all the participants with where to sit, what to grab and George was very helpful during class; brining additional baking trays, silicone sheets and anything else the participants needed. Chef Anne was extremely informative about different approaches and techniques, she pointed out what to look for when making dough and what factors to consider like the humidity in our kitchens at home—all the little details that make for truly exceptional croissants! Chef Anne readily answered questions and mentioned some history behind the croissants recipes and their regional origins. I have taken at least 3 other cooking classes at a different Sur La Table locations and this class was by far the best. I would only suggest to allot about three hours for this class versus the 2 suggested online.
