Siena Development was my first contact in the entrepreneurial world when I started my food business, I researched for many labs, at first, to identify the most efficient one to conduct my product testing, and they are the one I chose. BEWARE. I hired Siena Development to commercialize a home recipe and all I got was regret and disappointment. Dealing with them was painful and ultimately pointless. They were unprofessional and did not produce a finished product. Communication throughout the engagement was terrible or non existent. The recipe they "developed" was nearly identical to the original I gave them. My product was rejected by the FDA because Siena did not implement any pathogen control (they even used a banned ingredient). It appeared to me Siena was completely unfamiliar with the FDA guidelines and approval process. I even had to contact the FDA directly to learn that my product failed, Siena did not even have the decency to tell me. I would strongly recommend that anyone looking to develop a commercial food product stay away from Siena Development. To be very clear; I paid Siena in full and walked away from the engagement with nothing. They did not take any responsibility for their mistake and offered to refund me less than 6% of the financial losses I incurred. AVOID THE EXPENSIVE MISTAKE I MADE AND STAY AWAY FROM SIENA DEVELOPMENT!

I've first got in contact with this company in September to develop a sauce. It is January, and I still have not received a proposal. Holy, my main contact, never replies emails and messages. I have to try multiple times and be persistent for her to get back to me. Please save your time and energy and look for a different company! horrible experience. Extremely unprofessional. Update: After I posted my original review, immediately, there was 3 5 star reviews (BS to me) . Still no reply from this company as of 1/22. not that I care, but showing everyone that they are horrible.

Horrible experience I had with Siena department, summarized in points below
Technically
• Samples are received in shots like size (1.5-2oz), when comparing flavors and taste one needs good portions to make an inform decision, o highlighted that several times and they promised to increase the sizes in next samples and didn’t. Very weird considering shipping costs are barred by clients.
• From the first round of samples I asked for the calorie count for each of the samples, again no response. When pressed hard on that, I received it (only for the last round) in one line email and do your own math to get the calories for your desired bottle size.
• You expect from a flavor house to advise on how your beverage could be more suitable to your target market based on their knowledge of market trends, expect none from those guys, no advice whatsoever. No difference to running your trials from own kitchen .
Administratively
• I received a shipping invoice from them on December 19, when I attended to it 12/27 being holidays season, to my surprise it had a late payment fee added. When complained, the accountant stated “as per our agreement all invoices not paid in 3 days considered late”. Nothing in the agreement says so and as an ex-accountant myself for 20 yrs I’ve never seen an invoice paid in 4, 7 or even 10 days considered late minimum I’ve seen is 30 days. At the end the fee was waived when I insisted.
• Try reaching John the R&D director and the main point of contact. You call or email, it got me 7 weeks to receive a reply, different excuse every time (we moved premises, COVID slowed us) yet all those excuses shouldn’t stop an email reply or a courtesy call. I have exhausted all excuses other than unprofessional behavior which is what it’s
I have engaged with them on good faith and paid earnest money. I now moved on to a different formulation house and swallowed loses incurred with SD, but I wanted to highlight their bad business manners so no other startup / entrepreneur fall in that same trap.
