What a hidden gem. Worth the couple minutes detour off the main road when driving through. A great welcoming guy who serves the food in generous amounts and with a smile. The tie tip, chicken and ribs were perfect and the chili soup of the day was the best we have had. Will be our go-to stop for lunch when passing by from now on.

I recently visited the Prunedale Market and Deli and had mixed feelings about their renowned tri-tip sandwiches. While the meat was tender, it lacked that distinctive grilled flavor that one would expect from a properly cooked tri-tip. The sandwich left me wanting more in terms of taste and authenticity.

On the positive side, the owner of the establishment was incredibly friendly and outgoing. He even offered me a complimentary bowl of chili, which turned out to be delicious. It was a nice gesture that added value to the overall experience.

However, I was disappointed by the addition of hot Fritos to the sandwich. It didn't contribute anything special to the flavor profile and seemed unnecessary. Additionally, I personally believe that adding BBQ sauce to steak is a misstep, as it tends to overshadow the natural flavors of the meat.

In summary, the Prunedale Market and Deli falls short in delivering an exceptional tri-tip sandwich. While the owner's hospitality and the tasty chili are noteworthy, the lack of grilled flavor and questionable sandwich toppings leave much to be desired.

GO HERE….but bring cash. As you get to the end of a residential cul de sac you’ll think to yourself “am I in the right place?” Yes you are. This place is an American institution. Fantastic BBQ, but an even better guy. He’s generous, rough around the edges, and obviously loves what he does and the community he serves. The community loves him too. Worth a trip, what else do you have going on this weekend?

An absolute gem! The owner, Martin, is a vibe and hooked us up with some of the best tri-tip sandwiches I’ve had. The bbq ribs fell off the bone and were a delicious side to the sandwiches. Martin also gave us complimentary bowls of chili which was sooooo good too!

I know chips on sandos isn’t for everyone, but it’s definitely FOR ME!! I loved the texture and crunch of the hot Fritos on top of the melt in your mouth tri-tip sandwich. Everything was mouth wateringly good. Martin has built a beautiful community around his spot and I’ll definitely be coming back. Well worth the drive from the Bay Area or if you’re in Monterey/Carmel!

Great food and great service. The owner takes pride in his food, so much he keeps on loading you up with samples. If has any type of chowder, get it. And yes get the tri tip with hot Fritos. When in Monterey, for me worth the drive. Will stop by every chance I can get.

The owner is the chef and he just blows it out of the water. Amazing sandwiches, amazing ribs, and really good chowder. I usually dont believe it when people say something is the 'best' but in this case its true. Exceeded all my expectations by far. Ill be stopping by everything I'm in the area.

My family loves this place. The tri-tip and ribs sandwiches are excellent. The taste is original and the environment is friendly. Mark was generous with the meat and even offered my kids free ice cream. We absolutely love this place!
