Healthy perennial plants and shrubs are displayed beautifully at Outback Garden Growers, which is located just east of Lagrange Road and south of Route 30 in Frankfort. The owners, Fred and Maureen, are knowledgeable and informative. Plants I've purchased here don't just grow, they thrive.

How has this happened?! Being a lover of all things local, especially in my own town. How have I missed this amazing garden center that is the epitome of delightfulness?!?

Lucky for me Abby, the granddaughter of Maureen and Fred, mentioned it at an art market and I kept it in mind when Spring has sprung. After countless houseguests, some road trips, I had a free moment to come and enjoy.

Where else would you go and be offered ice water or raspberry tea, while being greeted with a jovial, smiling fuzzy yorkie by the name of Archie?!? The yard was alive, with people talking and shopping, bees and butterflies abound, hummingbirds everywhere you look. I did say if you see a garden gnome that looks like me living in their yard...no you didn't!

Even it being later in the season, their selection was plentiful. Sun and shade plants and blooms with the expert advice of Maureen helping to guide even the most novice bordering on just semidangerous like myself. I want my yard to be just like theirs, inviting, full of life, and welcoming.

If you haven't taken a moment out to visit the Outback, make the time. Open from Thursday to Sunday. I'm on the mailing list so I can check out their nighttime events and more. I will be back! I'm counting the sleeps until they open!

Outback Gardens is my “go to” for perennials and trees. The setting is beautiful and so very tranquil. Maureen and Fred make you feel like family and their knowledge and patience with questions is why I won’t go anywhere else. The epitome of a family run business who love what they are doing and know what they are doing. A Frankfort gem you must see for yourself…. you won’t be disappointed!
