Very disappointed. I have been making an effort to support local businesses, including Nichols. During my recent visit I spoke with the manager, Bob, about adding a product to Nichols. I mentioned having seen the product at the Regional Market. He shared fond memories of visiting the market with his mother. He then added that it has "changed" and "become dirty". I didn't grasp what he was getting at, until he complained of the "immigrants with food stamps" which he recited several times as I stared, shocked listening to him. I called him out on his racism, loudly. I proceeded to go speak with the owner. I felt he was quite dismissive, and I commented on it as he walked away. He replied that he had to "go deal with this". I left, purchased nothing- which I will continue to do as I seek an alternative to this store. I was in my car getting ready to leave, when I saw him emerge from the store. Evidently his "discussion" with Bob must have been brief. Sadly, this is the world we live in, where people are freely sharing their feelings of racism and xenophobia. I think it's disgusting that he would judge anyone by their race/nationality or for using "food stamps" that they happily accept in order to keep their store in business. I also found a post from a customer who felt mistreated, due to the color of his skin. Bob was not part of that post, but the owner sure was. Be better Nichols. No one wants to pay higher prices to support the business of someone who is or employs racists.

I have been paying the higher prices for years to support the local store because I want to support my neighborhood. This week was my last personally and we are switching lunches for my office because of rudeness to customers on two separate visits.

1. While I was waiting at the deli to place my office lunch order, the deli person was having a customer taste practically everything behind the counter and chat about their kids. I expect to wait always, but a person in front of me asked if someone could help him because he was on his short lunch break. The answer was next available person would help. Another 5 min later. I have been shopping at the store for years and say hi to all staff I walk past. Noone has ever bothered to say more than hi to me, if that.

2. Another morning this week I overheard the deli person loudly and angrily tell someone they could taste only 2 things and that's it (not a rule for their friends!).

3. At the checkout, an employee followed and stood behind one customer while she was checking out... watching her scan, in addition to the cashier, and ran away when he got called out for it. Would not even stop and respond to her face! Poor cashier made up some story of why the guy was watching her. BS.

Mike and team: Treat everyone the same or only let your friends in the store if that's who you are working for. I am done paying extra for the local store if ALL customers don't get the same treatment. I am done paying extra for wilting vegetables and long waits while staff chat with friends.

If you want quality produce, it is all here! I personally enjoy shopping to locale stores. I will definitely keep coming back even thought it’s quite a drive, it’s worth it.

I went to Nichols last week and as usual had a great experience! I’m always impressed with the employees and how friendly they are. I ordered something from the butcher and he had it cut up and back to me in about 5 minutes. I noticed the owner who was greeting employees and customers alike with a friendly good morning. He was all over the store, helping wherever needed. When I took out my groceries, he was outside retrieving carts. I told him how much I liked the store and how it was nice to see a store that was adequately staffed with happy employees. I feel like Nichols really cares about customer service. 😊

It’s a nice store and all, has what you need. But it is unnecessarily expensive. Like, rudely inconveniently priced basic items. Coffee for example… I was at Nichole’s the other morning to pick up a regular container of Maxwell House coffee and the grand total of JUST THAT was $17.99… like what?!!
I left and went to Wegmans to get the coffee at a better price. And glad I did. Wegmans had the coffee priced at $9.60. That’s a deal! That’s an $8 difference… that’s theft.
Nichole’s only wants to rob you. So only go there if you don’t mind spending top dollar for basic needs. (Edit) their coffee is now $18.99
