Markegard is a regenerative farm that’s good for the environment and a humane way of raising livestock. Their meat is fresh, healthy, and out of the world delicious. The sausages are not like the typical ones where the textures feel rubbery. Their sausages’ texture feel like meat but they taste like superb sausages. My husband and I both agreed that we’ve never had sausages as good as theirs. The people who run the farm are good people too. I highly recommend them.

We have been Markegard members for years and continue to purchase our meat from them. The main thing for me is that we know not only where our meat is coming from (and what it is fed) but also how it is treated throughout its lifetime. I feel 100% safe when I eat their meat. Having the agricultural sustainability added to this just tops it off! Hope others will give Markegard meats a try and help contribute to a sustainable future.

I've been a member for around half a year now, and my two year old loves their chicken and pork & apple sausages. If you live in the Bay Area and want to enjoy meat products with reduced environmental impact, I highly encourage you to get a membership and buy Markegard products. Buying local is also an investment in our local agricultural food system, which is a bulwark against potential future food supply chain shocks.

Such an amazing family ranch focusing on truly regenerative farming. The quality and love for the animals shows in the final product...it's the best tasting liver and steak I've ever had! A big thank you to the Markegard family for being a leader in the future of ranching, and for making this world a better place one piece of pasture at a time!

Markegard meats simply the best. I am so pleased to be able to support the Markegard family and their regenerative ranching practices. Being a member, ordering on-line for their "members special pricing" makes buying all the different meats effortless.

We really wanted to like this meat.. but unfortunately we can't! We bought it, at palo alto farmer's market, for 3 times and each time the meat was tasting bad.. it has an old flavour and unfortunately this time was extremely bad, we couldn't even take a bite...money wasted and it is a real pity!!!

Actually among all of the terrific, amazing things about Markegard, my favorite was when we took the ranch tour. One of the family's older milk cows (whom Doniga had since she was a calf) was to be "retired" (allowed to just live out her life comfortably - not the alternative). But Doniga discovered she was pregnant so there would be one more go-round. The idea that she was discovered to be pregnant means that she was just out there being a cow and one of the bulls just happened upon her while in heat, not forcefully artificially inseminated. The ranch is truly heaven in every sense of the word, and the animals are happy, healthy and taken care of with love and respect.
Of course happy, pasture-raised animals are better for everyone involved, and for those of us who have made the difficult decision to eat animal products for health reasons, it's about as win-win as can be. Everything is delicious and reasonably-priced, and I feel so fortunate to be able to support a local business and buy healthy food. And their CSA program is a killer deal - a $310 credit toward any purchase for $300, and lots of special deals for members.
My only complaint is that it's no longer sustainable for them to come to Santa Cruz, so twist my arm and force me to drive to HMB once a month to pick up my meat.
