Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park is a hidden gem rich in history and natural beauty. The park offers a fascinating glimpse into Native American culture with its impressive grinding rock and petroglyphs that tell stories of the past. The Chaw’se Regional Indian Museum is a must-visit, providing deeper insight into the Miwok people and their traditions.

The peaceful hiking trails are perfect for a relaxing stroll, surrounded by oak woodlands and vibrant wildlife. The picnic areas are clean and well-maintained, making it a great spot for a family outing. Wonderful staff, knowledgeable and helpful. Campsite was good, trails to museum and outdoor displays were convenient. Museum had good displays. Hoping for a movie about the area. Gifts and souvenir items were appropriate too.

Lovely small museum with beautiful pieces and history to learn. Outside super cool to learn more about Miwok traditions and see up close the grinding rocks! A nice place to visit if planning to do something after visiting the caverns which are down the road

Came here with our 3 kids (10, 11 and 13) during a road trip and had an amazing time. We lucked out and because it was a slow day and Ranger Mike was able to walk around with us. His passion and respect for the park and the Miwok people and culture was inspiring. We all learned so much and it will definitely be a memory that sticks with them. Definitely worthy of a detour from 49 - If you have time go get a burger after at the Sizemore Country Store.

Very beautiful historical park. There are nice walkways that taper into into a mile or so hike into the woods. If you want to take the trail, it goes in a loop. There are huge trees and a re-created village and the actual holes from grinding. If you are in the area, you must stop.

Camped there for Big Time. Got to participate and watch the traditional meat cook done in the pit. Really enjoy being here and witnessing amazing traditions and see beautiful art, jewelry and eat great food!

This is a nice State park. I used to attend the the medical conference they hold every year. It is where traditional Native American medicine and modern medicine come together. They have ceremonies in the Round House, sweats, stick ball game field, Indian Museum, Grinding Rocks, walking trails, and nice camp sites, bathrooms, showers.
You don't want to miss this park.

Loved camping here. We had the entire grounds to ourselves. We woke up and there were deer outside of our tents. So cool for the kids to see first thing when they wake up. It was even better because we arrived after dark. The trail was easy and beautiful. The teepee and museum were memorable and so much fun. We loved it here.
