Read some reviews before posting and I did not have the situations described by many with labeling, dividing, etc. Our charter had someone from Homer Fish Processing meet us at the dock. We only had halibut so no issue there. We had the company pack it in an airline box and that was done very well. All in all, Homer Fish Processing did a great job and the people there were very efficient and professional. Just a heads up that United charged us $150 for shipping a 50 pound box due to the dry ice. Still worth it. Not sure having them ship it is the best choice if you have the time and means to bring it home with you.

Homer Fish Processing are pros! Our salmon and halibut were portioned into one and two lb packages. Vacuum sealed. Frozen. We were able to pick up our fish the next day. It was prepared in a Styrofoam box inside of a cardboard box, ready for the airline. The packages did not exceed 49.7 pounds. 30 hours later when we finally got home, our fish was still frozen!! Thank you! The processing area is visible through windows in the parking lot Spotless. Very clean.

Processing was great. Shipping was horrible. Fish was held at customs because Homer fish processing failed to put the necessary documentation for the fish to clear customs. Ice packs were only good for 24-30 hours, and the fish took 82 hours to arrive at the destination. I paid $530 canadian to ship 10 lbs of Halibut, and it was ruined with no compensation or recourse. Beware of any claims that your fish will make it to the destination unspoiled. Would not recommend them unless you're processing there and packing on a plane yourself.

As others have stated, I was skeptical about using this company. The boat we charted suggested them and we went with them. They were prompt in meeting us at the end of both days of fishing at our dock. They took notes about how we wanted our fish handled. They explained that we should expect a 20% loss in processing. A couple of hours after we gave our fish to them I received a call with the weight of fish they received and confirmed all the details, they had great communication.

Our two day total of filets that we gave them and paid to process was 230 lbs. On the day we picked up the boxes they brought out two boxes. I asked how much they weighed and was told approx. 110 lbs. I immediately told them that there was something missing. Followed the gent into the office where he and the cashier mumbled in low tones to each other, clicked around on a calculator and then explained that they must have missed a tote of fish. The guy then went into the freezer and found my 70 lb tote of packaged and frozen fish. he apologized, packed our fish int two additional boxes and off we went.

The service, communication, handling and labeling all were great!
I'm glad I paid attention in math class, I expected to loose 20% or 46 lbs to processing, instead I was presented with about a 50% loss. I have no way of judging if this was intentional or not!
I am only sharing my limited experience. Know how much weight you expect to get back and be ready to challenge......YMMV

We used Homer fish processing by default since they work closely with Maverick charters. They took our fish and gave very specific instructions on how we wanted the fish divided- we were a group of five and our fish was all lumped together rather than separated. They messed up the dividing of fish somewhat but ultimately not a huge issue. My main complaint is none of the fish was labeled and it’s impossible to tell between halibut, cod, and rockfish once it has been processed and frozen. The fish is all delicious but I wish I knew what we are eating. Overall I’m disappointed with this company.

Great service. Pickup from the dock and ready next day. They were willing to allow me to pick up early before normal office hours so I can take it on my flight. 2 - 50lb boxes made it back to Phoenix frozen solid and labeled. Hope to use them again soon.

Read the reviews and was a bit worried, however they were old... had 160 pds of fish processed and it was worth all of it, packed the boxes to 49.5 pounds for the airplane. Really happy with the conveince price and service. They even packed the halibut checks separately and labeled the fish types..

We filled out a tag for our fish when we got off the boat on how we wanted it processed, skin off in 1# bags.
When it arrived after being shipped, we have no idea what is in each bag as the bags are not marked, skin was left on and in many bags, there is way more than 1# of fish. Now, we're not even sure we got what we fished for, halibut, cod and rock fish because it all looks the same.
You would think that for what they charge, they would at least mark the bags.

Update: After talking to Homer Processing, it seems there was a disconnect in how the fish was to be processed and not entirely their fault. But they did make it right and offered a partial refund.
