We visited here in early April. Some of the homes were not open but we were able to see some really cool things in town. We hit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints visitor center. The lady at the desk let us know what was open and told us about the free tours and activities there. We took 3 separate wagon rides. I am glad we were there in the early season as we didn't need to make a reservation to get on these (which is required in summer). Learning things here like why oxen were better to pull wagons vs horses. We visited the Browning gunsmith shop, the blacksmith and wagon making shop, and the family living center. The family living center was fun, even for an older couple. Here we watched (and participated in) candle making, brick making, rope making, barrel making and other things. At the blacksmith shop they made a small horseshoe from round bar, really cool to watch. The history to be learned here is fun and sad at the same time. We visited for two days and could have easily spent 3 or 4 if everything was open. Visiting and learning things here helps me appreciate that i was born when I was!!

The tours was informative, fun, and inspiring. Loved the history shared in each area! Wonderful to go back to the 1840's and experience what it was like during this time period. Very family friendly! Carriage, Ox and wagon rides were very enjoyable!

Great tours and explanations of what life was like in the 1830s. The faith the people had was incredible. Big bonus, everything was free. Definitely need at least a couple days to see everything. State park on opposite side of the road is beautiful and has camping

This is a great area for tourists, usually members of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, and the Community of Christ, to come and visit and learn about church history. There are many free activities available all over the historic district but also the Community of Christ offers a lovely tour of several sites, the places where Joseph Smith lived in Nauvoo, for only five dollars. Highly recommend this tour.

The shows are my favorite part of the Nauvoo experience! The musical "The Promise " was beautiful! The actors were talented and it was very enjoyable. Also, the Sunday evening devotional was amazing! Such beautiful music! Both are definitely a must-see in Nauvoo!

Such an amazing experience! Highly highly highly recommend. The storm that blew thru in early July was still being cleaned up and the fact that none of the sites were damaged is a true miracle!

Love this place so much. So much historical info and restorations that have painstakingly and accurately done. Many many volunteers who are so knowledgeable willing to lead you through the sites. Even if you are not of the lds faith it is very interesting. My in-laws who are not lds still enjoyed it. If you are lds (and Maybe if you aren't) you will find it a faith promoting experience. And best of all its completely free!
