I placed an order for breakfast items for St. Patrick's Day - wholemeal flour for making soda bread with my kids and all the breakfast goodies hubs and I loved when we traveled to Ireland. Ordering perishables online is so fraught, and I wish I could say that this went off without a hitch...but it didn't. I reviewed their website, including the shipping FAQs thoroughly to try to understand when the order would be processed and when to expect delivery. I thought that things would be great because the St. Patrick's Day breakfast (more on that later) said it would be delivered 3/14, and the shipping guidance says that orders are processed next business day. So, I'm expecting the breakfast I'm ordering on 3/11 to arrive 3/14 (when I would be home during the day) or to be processed the next day for 2 day delivery (on 3/14). Plus they're shipping UPS and UPS never has issues with my building.

All. of. this. was. wrong.

They processed same day and shipped 2nd day for delivery 3/13. I didn't panic - our UPS route delivers in the evening, so no worries. But a different truck that attempted delivery during the day and didn't attempt to reach anyone else in the building for entry. It didn't get redelivered to the access point till afternoon on the following day and I didn't make it there before they closed at 6. Long story short: by the time my husband picked up the box, all of the perishables were room temperature and icky.

I called immediately, left a voicemail, but didn't get a call back. Today, I came across the packing slip and called to see if there was anything that could be done. What a waste. I spent 30 min on the phone with a woman who all but called me foolish for
a) not realizing that only the St. Patrick's Day breakfast had a specific delivery date;
b) making any assumptions about shipping and delivery;
c) not giving detailed instructions about a specific delivery date in the order (because I didn't realize that I needed to because of a and b), and
d) not calling them if I was confused.

I wasn't confused. I can admit that I conflated the St. Patrick's Day breakfast with the other breakfasts. But in fairness, I'm a new customer, how was I to know that *this* one is special and not the others? It didn't say that *only* this one was guaranteed delivery by a date. I feel like my assumption was reasonable. Same with my calculation of shipping and times. I don't order perishables often, but when I do, I try to be pretty thorough about checking the details to avoid delivery issues.

After 27 minutes, I tried to wrap up. She said that she would put me on hold and check with her manager. I was over it because she had squarely put the blame on me throughout the call and kept saying that they were a "small family business", so I said, just call me if she can do something, if not, I'll take it up with my credit card company. When she went for the "small family business" card one last time, I said "You've all but called me dumb for - " and then she cut me off because she hadn't called me dumb (but had strongly implied that I was wrong/foolish/ignorant) and hung up on me.

I am very happy to shop and support small businesses. I was expecting the call to go completely differently. I expected partial or full compensation for this being a mess to say "thanks new customer for shopping with us and not one of the big guys. We appreciate you and are sorry your first experience didn't go the way any of us hoped." I did not expect to have to spend half an hour justifying why I didn't put delivery instructions in the order.

So word of warning, they say VERY clearly on their website that they will not be responsible for delivery delays, and they won't. She did say that they take the delivery instructions seriously, so use those if you think that there's even a remote possibility of needing the delivery on a certain day or days... even if you think you've done the shipping math correctly. You're definitely shopping a small business - and not one that will go the extra mile to appeal to new customers.

Received my order as promised. The quality of the products are second to none. Love shopping with Food Ireland, brings me back to Dublin City even though it is for a short time. Food is wonderful, service is grand, price easy to handle. This will make a lovely Christmas breakfast this year.

I am extremely pleased with my order in every way. The manner in which the food item was packed was most impressive. Also I received it within 2 days from the time I placed the order! This item was very difficult to find and the shipping charges with other vendors were prohibitive - more than the cost of the item! A dear friend loves this particular product and I wanted to have them on hand whenever he "suddenly" arrives in town - unannounced. Thank you so very much. There are no better vendors than Food Ireland, Inc.

My order arrived a few minutes ago and the quality of the contents is wonderful. My Tea Cakes did not have a single crack and everything else in the order was fabulously packed. Good Job.

I've done business with Food Ireland Inc a couple of times and have always been treated very well. If an item is out of stock, you can request email notice of when it's back in-stock. The prices are very reasonable. Shipping is fast via UPS. The only drawback is the shipping fees. You don't see them at the time of order but they do send you an email with total cost before shipping. I wait for the reduced shipping which they post on their website. Highly recommend!

This was my second order from Food Ireland for the Irish Soda Bread I so love when I visit. I am so excited to be able to purchase it boxed and make it fresh with ease. The first time I got it and made it, I actually got tears in my eyes. Food doesn't usually make me emotional but it tasted just like it did sitting in the cottage in Finore.
