Came in here with my sa to get a permit to camp. They were super friendly. Thank you for letting us use your land for a day and night. It was a true privilege and one of the best places if not best I have ever camped.

Walapai Market does not sell permit anymore as of this writing. The fish and game is located 2 buildings away west from the market. It says in Hualapai lodge brochure, they’re open on Sundays but not true. We want to buy permits ahead but unfortunately was closed on Sunday. Monday, they open at 8 am. The office is located in trading post building which needs to be improved as it looks like dilapidated. Inside the office looks dark with game animals on display. I think it needs to be more inviting to visitors BUT the experience with the STAFF made the day awesome. Met Ranger Daniel Alvarado and he was so nice. Met him in the bottom of the canyon and he explained how the rafters work and gave us a secret spot to relax and waddle in shallower part of the Colorado River. Must purchase permit in advance if you want to beat the heat and crowds. Worth 15+ usd per person!
