I used the neighborhood drop off to divert my food waste away from landfills. Farmer Pirates made this an easily accessible thing to do and for $10 a month I was very pleased! We signed up for Farmer Pirates services when we decided to transform our front yard into a garden. We knew we'd need a LOT of quality soil and wanted to make the transition to food composting at the same time. Everyone we've worked with at FP has been kind, patient, and excited to help us build and maintain our yarden! And the benefit of seeing how much space in food scraps we're saving from landfills, even as a small household of two, has been so rewarding. I tell everyone I know about Farmer Pirates. If you've been considering joining a composting program, DO IT! The service is timely, the team members are responsive and polite, and the compost we get for our beds is the best we've seen in the area. Farmer Pirates is a fantastic service that picks up your kitchen waste to be composted, saving tons of trash from going in the landfill (and you’ll save money on trash bags too). They provide a bucket (or 2 depending on your preference) and you fill the bucket and put it out every other week for them to drive by and empty. It’s that simple. They even have an app that reminds you when your pickup day is and tells you when your compost has been collected. I’ve used services like this in other locations but I like Farmer Pirates so much because they make it so easy. I’ve also changed from 1 bucket to 2 and they were incredibly responsive and easy to communicate with. Another bonus is that they invite you to pick up mulch in late spring so you can use some of the black gold (that your compost helped make) in your garden or containers. Buffalo and its surrounding areas are lucky to have this awesome business helping to divert waste in such an efficient way. I highly recommend them!

Farmer Pirates has been a game changer at our house! We've gone from filling a tote of garbage each week to filling a couple buckets (and one bag of trash for our tote). Feels great for the environment! And, each Spring we pick up bags of compost to fertilize our veggie beds at home. It's more than a win-win...thanks to the amazing "Rock-On Staff" who are efficient, kind, and always with a smile. Communication is terrific, too!

I have been very happy with my service and pick up times from Farmer Pirates Compost. There is great communication about any kind of change in pick up and weekly reminders of pick up day and time. I also appreciate being notified if I do forget to put my bin out. They are also great about answering question about what kinds of things can and cannot be composted.

I could not be happier with Farmer Pirates! I am so happy to see how much they've expanded their efforts to reduce food waste in Buffalo and the surrounding areas. In the handful of years we've been using them, their offerings have grown exponentially while staying true to who they are as a grassroots organization. From the beginning, they have helped educate their subscribers with composting best practices, handy tips and tricks via Instagram, and little extras like providing opportunities for us to responsibly dispose of jack-o-lanterns after Halloween. I look forward to our compost share every year (in reused and compostable burlap coffee bean bags!!), and if we're lucky, we sneak a peek at the dogs as the bags are loaded into our car. I hope to see more partnerships with other awesome organizations in the area, more educational content for us composting novices, and even more green buckets around Buffalo.
