El Rey Market is inconsistent with their quality of tomales, bolilllos and cakes. There are some days that the tomales have been excellent and other days they are downright awful. Today February 27, 2025 my friend went to pickup some tomales, some bolilllos and a slice of cake. The cake was awful didn't taste like chocolate and was the driest nastiest cake I have ever tasted. The tomales today tasted like jalapeño and had no other flavour. This bakery in my opinion gets a thumbs down and I personally wouldn't recommend them to anyone. A business that is constantly inconsistent isn't worth my time.

I noticed the special on almost a gallon of what it said extra virgin olive oil, when I got it home a day later I noticed it said mixed with another oil!? The conscientious of labels!!🤔✔️

It's not the same that it used to. I would go there for the tamales and they would put a generous amount of meat or cheese but now it seems that's it's a lot of masa. I've gone a few times recently and it's the same j thought maybe it was an off occasion, but it doesn't seem that way. The champurrado is still the best I've had in salinas. I also noticed a lot of flies this past time I went which made me wonder about food safety 🙁

I go there a lot but sometimes it can be expensive. Also sometimes they give the wrong bread or torta, like once I ordered a red tamale but they gave a dry tamale that tasted like cheese and I don't like cheese. I once also told them to give me a torta with no cream and they gave me the torta with cheese.

We bought some bread thinking it was going to taste delicious based that it looked like it. Looks like looks are deceiving after all. It was old and hard. It had a horrible taste to it. Will never buy bread from there again. Service wasn't that good either.
