In his final will, Ed Schieffelin, founder of Tombstone, asked that his body be brought back to Tombstone from Oregon after he had struck it rich and made millions. His body was to be dressed in his miner clothes, complete with lamp and pickaxe. The monument is quite large and there is a plaque on the front that sings the praises of this man who braved many perils including Apache attacks and scammers to stake his fortune and turn this wilderness plot into a thriving town.

Really a cool place to see if you are visiting Tombstone. Road is a little rough, so take it slow.

Much bigger than it looked in pictures. Really nice, sad that the ground around the monument is covered in broken beer bottle glass. :/

What a cool thing out in the middle of the desert a few miles north of Tombstone. Highly recommend as a nice place to eat a picnic. Please note, there is a table here, but no grills.

Ok so be advised...there isn't a lot her. There's the monument...there's the picnic table...and there's an information sign which needs serious replacing. I don't know how she did it, but she was actually able to read the sign. If you go visit here, you'll see how amazing that is. The view is nice...all in all totally worth visiting. It's seriously like 7 minutes from the heart of Tombstone. Travel north on historic Allen st....and that's it. You'll see the monument for sure. ?

I gave four stars because I feel like you have to take these things in context. It's a rock cairn in the middle of the desert so there's not going to be much there and in that regard it's perfectly fine. It was a little less clean than I would desire, hence 4 Stars. Taking it in context I hiked to there from Highway 82. There are several well-worn horse trails leading up to it and the area is quite beautiful. It's an interesting bit of History, if you like that sort of thing.
