I’ve always wanted to have my own backyard garden, tho like the students here, available space may be lacking, so thus the community garden fills the void!
The community garden of CSUN is a growing idea to involve students, faculty and locals in the art of cultivation of edible food. Veggies, herbs and spices may be available at the pantry or sampled at the garden.
It’s open to the public for self guided tours. Docent led visits may be arranged by the volunteers who are usually busy dedicating their time to an ever growing project!
The G.A.R.D.E.N. is located just west of Northridge Academy High School and north of the CSUN Tennis Courts and the Matador Diamond Softball Field.
Restrooms are available along the garden trail. While designated parking is for students, public parking may be available along Zelzah Ave.

Richard gave us a wonderful tour explaining the use of native plants interspersed with food plants. The pollinator garden is wonderful. We spent the afternoon volunteering by taking photos of insects to upload to iNaturalist.

This is a great place to volunteer; not only do you help others, you also get to grab fresh, organic food for yourself along the way!
