Everything you can need while staying in Girdwood. They seem to manage to fit everything from hardware, to groceries, to over the counter medicines and vitamins, to firewood in their location at the corner of Hightower road. The employees are always friendly and chatting with someone, the convenience of a Carr’s/Safeway location with a local mercantile feel.

We visited the Mercantile in search for food, snacks and beverages to have while we stayed at an AirBNB in Girdwood in early August. It’s small but does have a wide selection of basic grocery store necessities. There was also a wide variety of produce as you first can in the narrow entry. There was also a heat lamp and trays at the register where they had some sandwiches. The prices are higher than what you may be used to.
There is a beer & liquor store that shares the building but is separated by a wall and has a separate entrance. When we were there, there was a sign on the door that said “be back in 10 minutes”. After waiting 20-minutes, we skipped out on the adult beverages and left the area. It’s a good place for basic groceries and produce.

Surprisingly well-stocked grocery and liquor store. The place is stacked to the ceiling like a grocer in NY City, and they seemed to have all kinds of produce and specialty stuff I did not expect to see. Helpful staff!

My daughter and I walked to this mercantile one day and found everything we needed. We did not have to ask for help, but when my mother-in-law did, she stated that the employee she talked to was rude and told her he didn't know where anything was. The staff we talked to was behind the counter and they were kind and cut up and joked with us. The aisles are tight, but that just means there is more merchandise that can be packed in to choose from. They have pretty much everything, you just have to look. We were happy with everything we purchased from the store and went back at least 4 more times to stock up on other items.
