I took scheduled CSHL public tour of several labs and grounds. It was a nice introduction to scientific achievements and ongoing current research work. Grace Auditorium is an outstanding facility. Campus of CSHL is an arboretum and I thought it might be that even before I read confirmation of it in the brochure. Landscaping is great across the campus, views of Long Island bay are one of visit’s highlights.

Took a scheduled CSHL tour at 10 a.m. on Saturday, 8/17. The facilities were beautiful, but the tour guide was 15 minutes late and spoke very quietly despite multiple requests to speak up. When we arrived, we weren’t sure how to get to the tour’s starting point, as we didn’t receive a map when we booked our tickets.

Wouldn't allow scientist Hideki Kakeya attend their pathogen conference in Japan because he favored a lab escape of Covid and wrote a paper on it. World's most dangerous profession needs to be more open about safety issues.

I came here for a conference with my entire lab. This is a really neat place to attend a conference and I've heard good things about the classes, but two things let me down. 1) One of my lab mates is vegan and had very little options for food the entire time. Even the vegetable sides typically had butter/cheese/bacon. For the banquet she was served a surprisingly complete meal and remarked she had never had such a good vegan phillo dough. She quickly became sick after dinner and suspects the meal was not actually vegan.
2) This campus is not well lit, so walking anywhere alone in the evening is unsettling . We stayed in the double bed cabins, and the pathway was particularly dim and creepy.

This place is so so pretty! I went for a conference and brought my family (husband and two young kids) with me. We all had a really great time exploring the campus. We were there in late April so the weather was great and the place was beautiful. I was sad to leave.
