It is never open, and the time posted is never correct. It said 0800am open. I got there at 0750am, However, I was greeted to a line of 19 people ahead of me.

Completely car dependant town and yet the office to get a license is only open select hours, two days a week.

The basics:

They open at 0800 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I arrived at 0835 on a Tuesday. 10 people arrived ahead of me (so I was 11th on the list). I left at 1030 having accomplished what I went to do.

More details:

We just moved here. My driver's license is from another state and was going to expire soon. I called ahead to find out EXACTLY what documentation was required in order for me to get a new driver's license. I have an infant and with COVID ruining everything I wanted to do this once and do it quick! I was told to bring the following:

•2 pieces of business mail with my name on them and my current address
•my current drivers license
•my SSN card
•my passport
•my DD-214 if I wanted a veteran ID (they actually did NOT tell me to bring this otherwise I would have so my ID does NOT reflect my veteran status unfortunately 🙁)

The ID cost me $42.**. They take card or cash but if you pay with cash you MUST have exact change or they will not accept it.

Their sign said they only had 1 person working but they had two so maybe I got lucky 🤷‍♀️

They do NOT take appointments. If you want an appointment, call the Dothan office and see if they can get you in. I tried and they were booked two months out and I needed my license well before that.

The Driver's License place is basically in an old gym with NO A/C so dress accordingly. There is PLENTY of room inside the gym to socially distance.

If you're going in to take a driving test, due to COVID, they require you have sanitizing wipes with you to wipe down certain parts of your car so bring those or you'll be sent away unless someone there has extra.

3 stars because the woman who helped me was polite enough but was difficult to understand behind her mask (she was soft spoken). The facility was in decent shape but was in need of cleaning and bug spray. A/C would have been nice in this Alabama heat but I'm sure it would cost too much to cool that large of a facility for only 2 days a week.

The employee's were friendly and knew their jobs very well. There are only 2 employees that process drivers licenses etc. I arrived at 7:20am and was soon followed by 20 people waiting for the place to open. They are only open on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you need to get your license renewed be very early or prepared to wait a while.

Needs to be open more days! If you are open until 4:00 you should let people sign in until 4:00!

Pleasantly surprised! Despite there being only one examiner and one other person the staff was friendly, helpful and moving quickly. The environment was as comfortable as any state office.

Watson’s the man. Very professional, nice and moved the line quick. The officer and other employee were very friendly also but we didn’t work with them.
