This industrial marvel and it's accompanying pollution-laden lake was a real highlight of our trip to the USA. Rising like a beacon of hope on our otherwise mundane road trip the sight of the smoke billowing from the impressive towers filled our hearts with glee. 5 stars

Love clean, cheap coal! Happy to see this plant in operation. Steam only comes out of the top. Those who don’t like it better not charge their electric cars, use air conditioning, or turn on any lights. Yay for good jobs in the great state of AZ in the good ol USA.

Was fortunate to see this beautiful American treasure burning her way through a rainy day. Rain, sleet, or snow the coal will always glow. Sometimes her force is hiding by the arid landscape but on this beautiful drizzly day the steam poured forth and gave us an understanding of what otherwise would be an incomprehensible amount of power being generated for this great state in this great land of ours.
God Bless America & God Speed fellow travelers.

An ugly blemish on the western landscape.
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'

Beneath the Arizona sky so wide,
The Cholla’s tears are hard to hide,
For in its bones, a deep lament,
Of days and dreams that came and went.
Its towering stacks, now ghosts in gray,
Recall the glory of yesterday,
When fires burned and engines roared,
And energy from darkness poured.

Beneath the Arizona sky, where the desert sands lie still,
Stands Cholla Coal Power Plant, a titan upon the hill.
With smokestacks reaching high, like fingers to the sun,
It breathes the breath of industry, its work is never done.

I feel like I am watching the end of the Cholla plant, here in Feb 2024. I’ve read articles that it’s set to close in/by 2025 as it is a coal fired plant. I understand the importance of switching to cleaner energy sources and fully support it. However, Cholla is a road marker on I-40 that lets me know I’m getting close to Flagstaff. If they shutter the plant, what will become of it? I think it would be cool to have tours maybe? Or even better, make it a super cool paintball battlefield? Maybe allow UrbeX folks to have fun there? Unfortunately those are just dreams, no way could anyone get insured for those. Hopefully it won’t just sit there and rot.

Road tripping across the country. Skipped Grand Canyon, Lake Havasu, Santa Fe, etc. because I couldn’t wait to watch the sunrise at Cholla Power Plant. I love America. Praise be. Do yourself a favor and soak in the breathtaking view from Love’s gas station.
