Ordered wings, wedge salad, and a glazed salmon entree that came with potatoes & asparagus. Super good meal. Salmon glaze 15/10– potatoes & asparagus cooked perfectly. Wedge salad had super fresh veg, very enjoyable. Not sure if the sauces are homemade in-house, but the blue cheese and ranch were phenomenal; the wing sauces were great. I was able to choose 2 sauces for my wings, which I preferred to get on the side— I was delighted at how well the plain fried wings were seasoned without sauce. Definitely a must-try if in the area. The ambiance is super cozy. Love being able to see the cooks @ work— who clearly know what they’re doing.

Absolutely fantastic! From Out of town and just found it. Jimmy at the bar was wonderful. Crab cakes best I’ve ever had + the Pineapple Upside Down Cake martini. Chefs kiss!! Excellent atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

Some of the best tasting food I've ever eaten! Mathew the bartender was full of information. The food is cooked solely by the owners. They have a selection of different bitters you can pick from for their "old fashioned ". I'll order crab cakes at any chance the theirs were 100% amazing. The chicken picatta was creamy and flavorful. Made exceptionally! Only bad side was if you're a little bit bigger you can't fit at the bar. The stools were too high. 😂

Everything about this place is top notch. The sauce for the mussels is so good I've texted everyone I know! Salmon delicious and the crab cakes were stellar (and we are from Maryland). Rachel/Jimmy and Kiera will take such good care of you, you'll invite them on the rest of your vacation!

Bernards is in downtown Roanoke so be prepared to hunt for a parking spot. We were there for lunch and got lucky and found a spot a block away. Being December, the restaurant had a pretty Christmas tree all decorated as you walked in. They also had decorations throughout the restaurant so it was festive. It is a small space in the front area and was kinda noisy between people chattering and clattering from the open kitchen. We were greeted after a minute and advised to pick whatever table we wanted. After a couple of minutes (and beginning to wonder if anyone saw us), our waiter arrived. We asked for a wine list which he promptly retrieved. Wine is available by the glass and bottle but the list is limited and pricey. One of us ordered a glass of cabernet sauvignon without realizing there were two choices. The waiter didn’t ask, and, of course, brought the more expensive one. We ordered the fish and chips, corned beef sandwich and cheeseburger. I really wanted the cottage pie but they didn’t have the mashed potatoes prepared yet. We all ordered french fries which were a bit disappointing as they were not crunchy and not very hot. The corned beef was the hands down winner. It is the best corned beef we’ve ever eaten. Get this! The cod was two nice sized pieces with a small side of coleslaw. The cod was not greasy or fishy so it was enjoyable. The cheeseburger was good but could have tasted “meatier”. Maybe it was camouflaged by the cheese, lettuce, and tomato toppings. Apparently, you can order an extra patty for an up-charge. The waiter did a decent job except that he left the dirty dishes on the table far too long – one of my nitpicks. We took home leftovers and asked for additional mustard and thousand island which we were charged for – just so you know. The surprising issue we had is that the amount charged to our credit card was different than the amount on our receipt. It wasn’t much, like $3, but it’s the principal. I emailed the restaurant with a copy of my receipt and credit card statement. I didn’t hear anything for a week so I emailed again and got an immediate response from the owner(?). I was told that they had accidentally switched tips on two checks. I opted for them to refund my credit card but it’s been a month, and I have not received it.

This is the place we were looking for while staying in downtown Roanoke! Great food and service. The waiter gave us good advice on the menu! Just what we wanted. We got seated without a reservation, but having one might be a good idea.

Eat dinner here. Came from Wisconsin, and have heard good things about this place. Everything described and what you read is pretty accurate. I would add the flavor combinations crafted by the owners are an incredible value for the prices. We had salad and salmon and were quite impressed. Jimmy the serve was also fantastic and deserves a raise. It is pretty casual environment considering the quality of dish you are receiving. I would make it a point to revisit this place if I was in town.

This is a gem of a place: cozy, welcoming, great food and friendly and excellent service.

We went here for lunch on a cold weekday. We were welcomed and quickly seated. The decor is modern and the ambiance is chic and fun. Our server Jamie was very friendly and professional. Since it was the lunch hours, the main entrees were not yet available.

We had poached pear salad that was delicious with the poppyseed dressing. The backyard burger was done just right and also came with a Bernard stamp. A nice and fun touch. The meat was cooked perfect. And the Chef’s attention to detail showed. Finally, ribeye sandwich is among the best we have had. The meat cooked to perfection and paired nicely with the mushrooms. The French onion soup was also done just right. Overall, the food was a treat.

We were tempted to try the banana pudding and it was so fresh and heavenly.

The friendly service added to the experience. Thank you for making our visit special. We are glad we came here and recommend you go here too.

We tried this place on a whim and it was outstanding. The service was great, we were able to park right outside on the street, and the atmosphere was really cool.

The food was very well prepared, really tasty and the portions were generous.

It wasn't cheap, but it didn't break the bank either. The entrees and sandwiches were all around 20, which is good for dinner.

The pear martini was delicious!
