BE WARNED!!!!!!!

If you're coming to court due to a ticket issued by a police officer of the town of Haverstraw, NY expect the whole process to take more than 2+ hours. This is due to the place being run with complete and unapologetic incompetence.

1. The COURT SECURITY OFFICERS have no order in place when it came to directing defendants. They lost track of seating and who arrived first. The appointment in the ticket has no purpose. One particular court security officer acted with no shame like he is superior to everyone else and would verbally show this with his sassy remarks, cocky smirks, his unprofessional and sloppy demeanor i.e. his unbuttoned shirt, baggy attire, no nametag, confusion of his surroundings and his condescending talk to us defendants. I even witnessed him taking a personal call on his cell phone asking the person on the line who is picking up his child. I, also, witnessed him taking a defendant's plea documents and in an attempt to multi-task he and all court personnel lost the defendant's documents. The defendant had to return to the prosecutor to get the documents once again. The court security officer is the younger one of all of them present this day, Hispanic, because he spoke Spanish.

2. For the village of Haverstraw having a local populace of mainly Spanish speaking residents, they had one interpreter present. She kept running back and forth between the court room and the prosecutor's window. Due to her absence in the court room, because she was needed in the prosecutor's window, it delayed everyone's hearing with the judge. Hence why it took longer than it should considering mostly everyone present had accepted a plea bargain with the prosecutor. THIS WAS STRESSFUL AND ANNOYING, but I felt sorry for the interpreter on how she was being pulled all over.

3. WORD OF ADVICE: When asked by the judge if you are able to pay the fine today SAY NO! The line to wait to pay the fines is longer than the line to see the judge. That is where I wasted the majority of the time. I arrived at 2:45 p.m. and left the village hall at 5 p.m. If you decide to stay and pay the same day...

BRING CASH or CHECK to pay your fines. If you're paying with a debit/credit card you will be charged a 2.99% fee on top of the ticket and court fees.
