Westminster Nursery & Garden Center - West Hempstead, New York

I had a disappointing experience with Westminster Garden Nursery in Hempstead. I went in looking for shrubs to create a privacy fence between my yard and my neighbor’s, and they just so happened to be having a sale—30% off shrubs that were originally priced at $160 each. I decided to purchase 10 shrubs, which came to $112 each with the discount, not including tax and delivery. Keep in mind, I wasn’t able to choose the specific shrubs myself; they selected and delivered them for me. When the delivery arrived, I was charged an additional $200 to have the shrubs installed.

Less than three months after purchasing these Ilex shrubs, 5 out of the 10 are dead. My landscaper suggested reaching out to the nursery to see if they could offer any help. I spoke with the manager and was asked to send pictures of the dead shrubs (attached). After 24 hours without any response, I followed up only to be told by the receptionist/cashier that because they were purchased on sale, all warranties were voided. It’s concerning to think that I might have been given unhealthy shrubs because they were
purchased on sale and wasn’t able to choose them myself.

I’m now out almost $800 and left with shrubs that are dead and need to be replaced and reinstalled. I just want to warn others: be cautious when purchasing plants on sale here, and make sure you can personally select the ones you want for your home. I wouldn’t recommend this nursery if you’re looking for healthy, long-lasting plants and good customer service.

I gave it 3 stars because they are friendly, but the quality of the flowers are so questionable i bought 2 trays of seedlings and 45 dollars on a rose bush the end of april. Not growing wellat all! I go there in a uber because its close by, my son took me to 3 other nurseries[2 weeks to do] for me to purchase roses, plants and seedlings and they are flourishing. The marigolds i purchased here are just staying alive where as the marigolds i purchased 3 weeks later at another nursery has surpassed in size! My rose bush is diseased, and cost me 45 bucks and the other 2 which cost me 25 buck's each are flourishing made 2 center pieces already from the good bush. Did everything I usually do plant food and even bought something to fix the problem NOTHING! Pics of the first bush and the scrawny marigold that i have in my homemade compost which i call my flower hospital which all flowers usually do well in are from westminster nursery the others are from another nursery the white marigolds were a seedling too see how big it got and I purchased that 3 weeks after the first

They have street parking just for one semi truck which is not enough to park properly

There is big car parking lot opposite the business but that is under construction mean no access to parking lot already checked all driveways of lot
Be careful for parking if you like to come here at night

The best garden center around! Prices can't be beat, on par or lower than the big box stores. Great products selection, anything you can think of! Rich is awesome. You will not be disappointed

This Nursery is a HIDDEN GEM! 2023 doesn't have many "Mom & Pop" shops around but this is a thriving one! Very happy to have found this place. All employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Their inventory was plentiful and quality was great. Prices are very reasonable. If there's something you want and they don't have, Nick will GLADY order for you! We now have our new Go-To Nursery for all our needs! Ditch the "Big Box" stores and head over to Westminster Nursery!!
