I'd never been to a live poultry place before and wasn't sure what to expect. I settled on a young hen, one of the cheapest options (though definitely more expensive than whole chicken at a grocery store - but you are paying for freshness here). The employee at the counter was super friendly and helpful. They will butcher the animal however you like. I wanted mine whole without the feet, but they offered to include them, as well as break down the chicken into smaller pieces.

Worth noting for those who haven't had chicken from a live poultry shop before: first, since the animal had a heartbeat a few minutes before you take it home in a plastic bag, not sitting in a refrigerator for a few days prior, it will be warm to the touch. This surprised me but is a total duh-thing in hindsight. If it bothers you, skip this establishment. Also, the chickens here seem to be more "real" birds and not the selectively-bred mammoths you get from Aldi. You're just not going to get turkey-sized white meat off of these birds because they're proper chickens. Again, not a big deal at all, but it was initially surprising to me because I'd never thought through it before.

Overall, a great experience, although I'm not convinced the fresh chicken tastes different enough to make it worth choosing live chicken over the grocery store options, and the price different confirms that for me.

The Live Poultry House on 2601 S. Ridgeway Ave, is a fine establishment. The place has a welcoming staff, which provide humble and quick service. Not only are they respectful, but their freshly-cut chickens are of top quality. They're excellently cleaned and they're delicious. I have recommended this place to many of my friends, and I still plan to do so.

This Poultry shop has been around for a very long time, and I have Always been Pleased, and satisfied with their service, and reasonable prices for great quality poultry, and rabbit. I'm sorry to hear the few negative comments, but also very hard to believe that an establishment such as this could possibly stay in business so long "IF " These comments were true. A&D is The Best poultry shop in Chicago, & They are the Most sanitary, & I feel safe cooking the poultry from A&D. 😊 # I've been to other poultry shops that I couldn't even walk into because of the unbelievable, overwhelming, & nauseating stench of old rotten blood, & filthy cages so if you want to take your chances, go for it 🤢

The store was well lit, clean, well ventilated and did not smell overwhelmingly of animals that some places do. I got a dozen duck eggs and a dozen chicken eggs without even having to preorder the duck eggs. Good prices too.

I really like this place...
Service was great, But I ordered 3 young chickens
By the way they do a great undressing of the bird...
But when I went to pay they said $60.00 I laughed in disbelief I was like you’re kidding right $20.00 each .
They’re really overpriced that’s why I gave it a three star ⭐️ I don’t think I’ll be back to pay that price again
But really overall I liked the service and chicken 🐓 that was great but price was crazy 😜 I was crazy to to pay that price but I needed the fresh chicken then

I came here this is the best place I been in it's really clean no smell nothing it's amazing experience!!! I bought ten chickens they are so clean and cut on point I recommend Every one to come here I was in and out in less then 10 min and my chickens smelled really good I been in other places I had really bad expirence this is the best chicken place very friendly staff nice people in here I never had no problems .also very reasonable prices beat roosters in town I love this place definitely coming back here to get more chickens !!!!:)
