Walt runs a great operation. Trip was so enjoyable spoke with the rest of my group and we booked another trip for next year with more people.

Just had a great first visit with daughter and father. Can't speak to other lodges, but after our experience with Walt and his staff, we have no reason to look elsewhere when we return for our next trip. We will be back. If you are looking for a fishing experience in Petersburg, look no further. It was very evident throughout our 4 nights that they have a lot of experience in and have everything dialed in from the food to the fishing for a great customer experience.

View is amazing. Service is even better, the staff make so much good food and everything is made in their kitchen from scratch like the bread, soups, pizza, cookies, pastries, and the drinks are all made fresh by them and they taste amazing! And the captains of the boats that take us out were cool. The only downside l have had is the old guy the runs this place. He has kind of an attitude, when I was struggling to get the fishing pole to do something he grabbed my hand and showed me where to place it instead of being calm about it. And a few days later I said I wouldn't be going out on the boat for the day because I wanted to rest and he got upset and kinda through his hands in the air and shook his head because that ment he wouldn't have made more money from me on that day. And the cabins don't have front curtains for some reason. The side windows in your bedroom does but the front sliding door on all the cabins don't have curtains for privacy. I'm guessing this is so they have a cheaper electric bill from using more natural light instead of the overhead ones, it also kind of makes sense because they also unscrewed a lightbulb in the bathroom to save energy. But they did at least give you your own thermostat to make your room as warm as you like. The animals aren't afraid of people so you will see bald eagles right Infront of your cabin and dear. You can also see black bears in the distance sometimes. Overall I had a really fun experience.
ALSO be aware you may gain a few pounds at this resort because the staff makes pastries and cookies and leave them outside for you to take as many as you want, and they serve so much delicious food and breakfast, lunch, and dinner so you are going to want to eat a lot.

I am almost afraid to review this place because I don't want to compete with others to get dates when I go back!||This place is amazing! They picked us up from the airport, took us to the store for liquor and then drove us to the lodge. We ate dinner the first night and were amazed at how good everything was! The food was so good. Everyone at this resort was so friendly and accommodating. They really aim to make your stay the best.|We arranged guided fishing trips and the captain of the boat was very knowledgable and friendly. He got us on fish... halibut and salmon. After fishing the young men in charge of the docks were right there, loading fish and bringing them up the dock. After pictures they fillet & pack your fish. It's a SMOOTH running operation. They have everything figured out.||The cabins are comfortable and perfect for what it is. Next time I will not pack any rain gear or fishing tackle. They totally have all of that covered. It did rain a bit, but their rain gear is good. My buddies and I Loved this trip!||I would recommend this resort to avid fishermen or men who have fished very little. I would also recommend getting a guide and paying the money to fish that way for at least the first two days. I will do that next year as well!

Our group found Rocky Point at the Long Beach fishing show. The brosure looked great. So we booked it. Rocky point is a great spot. The food was simple but good. My only concern is your fishing starts at 6:00am, breakfast isn't severed until 8:00 am. There is coffee and Danish available. Lunch is sand witches first come first served. You need to get them early. You do not get in from fishing till @ 5-5:30. It's a long day. Dinner was the best meal. |Fishing charters fill up fast. Book well in advance. The fleet is old and slow, except for 1 new boat. Equipment is old and in need of an upgrade. The rental self driven boat is terrible. Old in need of repair. Go on a charter. |The rooms are basic and comfortable. The resort is in need of a upgrade. The dock is slippery. Be careful. |If your not an experience fish man don't go on a skiff. The was little instruction, no safety review. They give you a small map, but it's very hard to follow.|Fishing captains were very good. The kitchen staff was excellent.

When it comes to an all inclusive Alaska fishing lodge, Rocky Point is about as far away as you can get from a sterile corporate resort. Walt and Susan Payne have operated this for decades, now with their kids involved, and everyone working here has a relaxed, friendly, and positive vibe. Which we appreciated.||||Fishing is the number one priority here, as it should be. You can fish independently using one of the provided, very well-equipped skiffs or charter on a professionally rigged boat with one of their experienced skippers. Everything you need is provided.||||The location in the calm waters of the Wrangell Narrows is close to an Alaska Game and Fish hatchery for kings, and is managed closely by the State for sustainability. To the south is good fishing for halibut.||||Meals are included and they are outstanding. In fact in a two-week trip covering much of the state this was the best food we had in all of Alaska, bar none. Because it's home-made by Susan herself, and she's a fantastic cook. Served family-style at large tables in the dining room, which has sweeping views of the Narrows. In fact the biggest drawback of chartering out all day is you miss breakfast and lunch. They do provide substantial to-go food to take on the boat whether you charter or go on your own.||||Staff is friendly and approachable all the way 'round, but not overbearing. If you know what you're doing and want to go out on your own, you get the space to do your own thing.||||Biggest shortfall for me were the cabins, but then again this is a fishing lodge. Many of these fishing resorts give you nothing but a tent with shared bath facilities. Rocky Point's on the other hand are stick-built but quite basic rooms. Our cabin was set up like a 2 bedroom, one bath unit with living room facing the Narrows. Heater worked well, and fridge provided.||||Beds were nothing more than slab of foam (not memory) on a thin mattress on top of a plywood frame. Surprisingly comfortable however. I slept well, and you probably will too after being out on the water fishing all day.||||Each cabin has a private bath, but the shower was so tiny it was hard to wash yourself without bumping into something. That could be a bit dangerous as there was a tankless water heater that really worked well, maybe too well. Getting a comfortable water temp was a razor thin point, and if you knocked the handle just a tiny bit you could go from scalding to freezing in a blink of an eye. ||||Service was just excellent. Your fish are processed, flash frozen, and boxed up nicely for your return. Ours was still frozen rock solid when we got home 15 hours later.||||We were somewhat disappointed by the fishing at the time of our visit in mid-June, normally a decent time for kings. I realize the Resort has no control over that, but nevertheless we wanted king salmon. Came away with halibut so I guess that's OK.||||If you're looking for a casual, relaxed, well run, quality fishing operation, Rocky Point is well worth a look.
